Whether or not you’ve heard of the term scale survey, you’ve most likely completed one at some point. A scale survey is used to determine to what extent a person agrees or disagrees with a specific topic.

A scale survey question enables you to record the opinions and thoughts of an individual concerning the products and services of a brand. Instead of limiting the answers to the basic yes/no, a scale survey question offers options ranging from one extreme attitude to another. They usually contain 5-7 response options, including a neutral opinion. The fact that a scale survey question includes multiple answers sets it apart from the other questions used in a survey.
Scale survey questions apply to all kinds of surveys. For example, brands can understand if customers are likely to recommend their products by gauging their satisfaction levels. The options could range from “definitely” to “definitely not” and everything in between that includes “likely”, “possibly”, “unlikely”.

Unipolar scales focus on the presence or absence of a single attribute. A five-point scale is used for unipolar questions, meaning that respondents have to choose from 5 options. They do not have options for neutral responses.

A bipolar scale has a continuous range between two opposite opinions. Respondents can choose from 7 choices on a bipolar scale. It also includes a neutral or center point.

Post-event surveys are conducted to gather the opinions of people on the venue, the event, crowd, etc to assess the entire event experience.

On a scale from 1-5, how satisfied were you with the location of the event?
Scale survey questions can be used to gain an insight into the sentiments of employees. The questions could revolve around new policies, work culture, new tools and technologies, and more.

What is the ultimate objective of the survey? A hotel, for example, could employ a Scale survey to learn about its visitors’ experiences.
Make a list of questions that will assist you better grasping the user’s viewpoints on a particular topic.
For example, a variety of indicators centered on service, atmosphere, and other components could be utilized to learn about a customer’s hotel stay experience.
Depending on the granularity of responses required from users, choose a 4, 5, or 7-point scale. The most popular one is a five-point scale. One suggestion is to put on your creative hat and ask questions that will pique the users’ interest.
The final step is to test the survey on the most ideal group of customers. Conduct a poll that is targeted to the users of your products or services rather than a more generic one.
