AAPOR Conference 2019: In Case You Missed It

Last week, some of Voxco’s team members had the pleasure of attending the 74th Annual AAPOR Conference.

As silver sponsors of the event, we were given the opportunity to exhibit in the conference hall, as well as sponsor an attendee gathering at the Fifth Social Club.

What is AAPOR (American Association of Public Opinion Research)?

AAPOR’s presence as a leading association in the research industry is extremely significant. Founded in 1942, AAPOR has been the go-to resource for public opinion and market research. The first-ever AAPOR Conference was held in 1946, and since then, the association has made it a tradition to host annual conferences to open the dialogue and meet likeminded professionals focused on research.

We sat down with our colleagues, Cettina Borsellino, Dominique Richard, and Shawn Syring to get their rundown of the event.

Who were some exhibitors you were pleased to see? 

We saw plenty of familiar faces! It’s always a great experience to reconnect with our clients and peers. Our clients Opinion Access, ICF, RTI, NORC, ReconMR, Impaq, Westat, and Logit, among many others had a strong presence at the event!

What were some hot topics being discussed this year?

There was a lot of focus on polling, elections, mixed mode/multi-mode surveys, and SMS distribution tactics for reaching respondents.

Are there any talks you’d like to highlight?

Meghann Crawford, Director of Data Management at Siena College Research Institute had a very fascinating talk on how 2018 was the “Year of the Woman” – speaking on women in politics and the data surrounding it.

In another presentation, Thomas Brassell, from global consulting firm ICF built a presentation on SMS text interactions as a means to drive survey responses.

Siena College Research Institute presenting their landmark project (live survey results election polling) with The New York Times using Voxco was really exciting for us. Do you have any comments on that?

It was really incredible to see how Siena College Research Institute approached the project from many different angles. It was great to see the various ways to look at the data that was collected throughout the study. The project truly was monumental in increasing transparency in the polling industry, as survey results were displayed live on The Upshot website for all their readers to see!

We were very pleased that we could help them in partnership with the Voxco client network to meet the needs of the study.

Will you attend next year in Atlanta?
